02/26 Update: Two family members from each player’s household will be eligible to attend PRESEASON matches with masks and distancing protocols in effect. The same applies for LEAGUE matches scheduled at Edison HS. No ruling yet on fan attendance at AWAY LEAGUE matches but we will update you as information becomes available.
02/12 Update: Great News for the Freshman class! Freshman workouts will begin March 2nd and will be conducted Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:00 PM on the grass field by the JV baseball field. All freshman coming out MUST have the TRYOUT INSURANCE FORM and COVID VAPA FORM to participate. Required Forms – 20/21 Boys Soccer | Edison High School Boys Soccer (edisonboyssoccer.com)
In other very positive developments, the CIF re-instated the waiver for playing more than one sport – https://cifstate.org/covid-19/2.12.21_update_re_600 – which means that players will not have to choose between club and high school soccer.
02/03 Update: The boys soccer class will be kicking back off initially on Wednesdays and Fridays at 1:00 PM at the Pitch starting February 10th. For returning players, please look for a communication via one of the returning Varsity players for updates. For Frosh/Soph tryouts, Charlie and Danny are looking to hold tryouts towards late February and the dates have not been determined as of yet. The NFHS has updated their guidance on HS Sports and the report can be found here: https://www.nfhs.org/articles/nfhs-revises-guidance-on-covid-19-transmission-during-high-school-sports/ – Essentially, they eliminated the RISK TIERS as they found that “proven cases of direct COVID-19 transmission during athletics remain relatively rare.” We’re looking to CIF and the Governor’s office to see if they consider this NFHS adjustment to policy. Stay tuned for more updates.
01/25 Update: As of today, the CDPH has lifted the November Stay At Home order. Counties are being looked at, not as part of a region but as counties in terms of potential reopening of activities. There is expected to be an update on youth sports issued tomorrow. We will continue to monitor the activity at the State level and will get communications out as things are updated.
01/23 Update: We are currently still in a ‘wait and see’ mode with respect to a return to soccer activities. The CDPH as of 1/23 have not yet updated their guidance on youth sports.
CIF State on 1/21 released this guidance on playing sports – https://www.cifstate.org/covid-19/All_Sports_Guidelines.pdf – the soccer specific guidance is on pages 21 and 22. No other updates from CIF or CIF SS are available in regards to a return to soccer activities.
It is anticipated that the students that elected to have a hybrid school experience will be returning to the classrooms on February 1st. The coaching staff will assess things over the next week and make a determination about returning to soccer class for returning players and tryouts for the freshman.
We’ll update this website no later than February 3rd, but if any of you have questions in the meantime, please reach out to Jeff Flory – firstname.lastname@example.org.
